Yes, of course we ended up adopting Rascal . We didn’t really have much of a choice. He’s been pretty perfect for the first week we’ve had him. I’ve been transformed into a crazy dog dad.
He’s being crate trained now. The foster home he was in had a big yard and lots of other dogs. Now that he’s a city boi, he’s got some adjusting to do but he’s handled it like a champ so far. He’s a total Velcro dog and will follow you around everywhere. He doesn’t bark and he’s really good with strangers. Total A+ certified good boy.
He’s a Basenji and we got him from a rescue organization for the breed.
Here he is learning about the LS in my parents boat.
He’s so fresh.

They have a really cool history. One of the oldest breeds in the world and not “man made” by breeders. They are from Africa and they don’t bark. They actually act a lot like cats and are hypoallergenic .

Velcro dog! That makes total sense. I have a cat who follows me around and I will now be calling him velcro cat.

Well damn now I’m really intrigued. I’ve got 3 cats now but my old girl won’t last much longer and I kind of want a dog again.
They look neat too

They’re super smart, but independent thinkers . They clean themselves like a cat and they don’t really shed. He will walk on the top cushions of the couch and come sit on your shoulders sometimes. They’re just quirky dogs. A lot of people with cats say they get along really well with their Basenji.
We were drawn to the breed because we wanted a hypoalergenic breed, but wanted an athletic and playful dog. A lot of the hypo breeds are couch potatoes . So far he’s lived up to the hype.
